Restorative Dentistry
Broken or cracked teeth can cause infections, cavities, tooth sensitivity, and adversely affect your oral health. Restorative dental treatments are thus required to rehabilitate your functional and aesthetic dentition. These techniques entail diagnosis and management of teeth diseases and structures. Our clients in Prince Albert can choose from our advanced Restorative Dental procedures such as Crowns & Bridges, Dental Implants, Root Canal Therapy, and Dentures among others.
Crowns and Bridges
Dental crowns and bridges are restorative procedures used as a permanent solution to missing or damaged teeth. The procedure uses prosthetic devices to restore your natural smile.
A dental crown is a manufactured tooth made from porcelain, ceramic or gold alloys to add extra strength to a tooth. It can be coloured or texture-matched to conform to the existing teeth. The crown is used in a damaged or fractured tooth structure to fill and shape the tooth into a smaller size while any decay is removed. The crown is then cemented on the newly shaped tooth to look like a cap.
A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is a set of false teeth rigidly attached between two crowns. Once cemented into position, a bridge looks and works like normal teeth.
Bridges and crowns are meant to last between 7-15 years, although good oral hygiene and regular dentist checkups play a significant role.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are artificial teeth roots fixed into the jaw to hold replacement teeth or bridges. The implant is made of titanium and other materials compatible with the body and it’s surgically placed to act as a sturdy anchor for a replaced tooth.
Types of Dental Implants:
Endosteal Implants
They are surgically placed directly into the jawbone. When the surrounding gum tissue recovers, a second surgery is performed to connect a post to the original implant. An artificial tooth can then be attached.
Subperiosteal Implants
They are metal frames fitted into the jawbone below the gum tissue. The metal frames fit firmly into the jawbone as the gum heals. Posts are attached to the frames, and artificial teeth mounted on the posts.
Root Canal Therapy
Root Canal Therapy or endodontic treatment is the procedure of removing infected, injured, or dead pulp from the tooth. During the procedure, the infected root canal system is removed, and the inside of the tooth cleaned and disinfected. The canal is then filled with soft pulp to help the tooth grow and develop. After restoration, the tooth functions as a normal tooth.
Benefits of Root Canal Therapy
- Natural appearance is restored
- Normal biting force and sensation is enhanced
- Efficient chewing of food
- The teeth are protected from excessive strain or wear
Dentures
If you lose your natural teeth from decay, gum disease or injury, replacing the missing teeth will help restore your appearance and oral health. Dentures are removable “false” teeth and are made of plastic, metal, or nylon and fitted over the gums to replace the missing teeth. Dentures make it easier to eat and speak in a normal way.
Types of Dentures:
Complete Dentures
These are full dentures fitted when all upper or lower teeth are removed or replaced. A trial denture may be created from the mouth impression obtained before the final denture is produced. Shape and color may vary according to the mouth impression.
Partial Dentures
They are designed to fill the gap left by one or more teeth. They clip on natural teeth by means of metal clasps. The partial dentures can be easily unclipped and removed when necessary.
